In-Home Services Program

Branch County offers to its aging population an In-Home Services Program through the H. & C. Burnside Senior Center (Branch County Commission on Aging). The program is designed to help seniors maintain their independence by providing aides to assist them with activities of daily living that have become too difficult for them to perform.

Eligibility for the program includes:

  • Resident of Branch County
  • Live alone or caring for an invalid
  • Physically unable to perform own tasks
  • Sixty (60) years of age or older

Upon applying for the program an assessment of the client is completed by the In-Home Services Director who is a registered nurse. This assessment will determine the eligibility and level of assistance needed. Periodic reassessments will be completed by a registered nurse while the individual is receiving service.

Types of service provided: Light housekeeping, laundry, personal care (bathing, hair care), grocery shopping, and doctor appointments.

Respite care is also available under this program. Respite care can provide a caregiver with a “break” from the responsibilities of caring for someone who needs continual supervision.

Funding: this service is funded by state and federal grant funds. Clients are offered the opportunity to donate toward the cost of their service; however a donation is not required.

For more information on these services contact the H. & C. Burnside Senior Center 517-279-6565 and ask for the In-Home Services Director, Pat Merlau.
